Marriage/Partner, Family and Relationship Counseling

According to a recent article from the APA (American Psychological Assocation) COMMUNICATION is a key piece to a healthy relationship. The APA says that while disagreements are part of any partnership, some fighting styles can be damaging to a relationship. Couples that use destructive behavior during arguments – such as yelling, resorting to personal criticisms or withdrawing from the discussion – can lead to the breakdown of a partnership over time. And unfortunately, many couples do not have the tools they need to disagree constructively. One of my specialties is working with couples and families to develop healthy communication techniques to move beyond the conflict.

Men’s Mental Health

While major mental health disorders like depression, anxiety, and bi-polar disorder affect men and women in equal percentages, men are 60% less likely to seek help than women, according to a National Institute for Mental Health (NIMH) 2020 Study. More than four times as many men die from suicide as women, and men often present with symptoms of depression that are different from their female counterparts, leading to a delay in diagnosis and treatment. I recognize the unique challenges men face today. The pressures of being a husband/partner, father, provider, and more. Even in our more modern times that is less focused on traditional gender roles than in generations past- the statistics speak for themsleves. Men are not okay. I am committed to helping men on their mental health journey in a judgement-free environment that is confidential and safe.
